Bojana Knezevic was born in ex-Yugoslavia's Sarajevo on April 16th 1986, where she was given the nickname 'Borsha' soon after by her dad Milovan. Borsha or borša in Serbo-Croatian means a women's hand made bag, something that is decorative and unique."My dad named me borsha because he believed that when I was born and when I was a baby I looked like a little decorated bag".
In 1992, Bojana and her family escaped the war that began that same year fleeing to the very capital of Spain, Madrid and then to a small town outside Valencia called Segorbe.
In Segorbe she did a lot growing up, learnt the customs of the Spanish culture, the language and made many friends with whom she is still in contact with to this very day.
Bojana was more of a tom-boy in her early years, unlike her sister Jelena who always loved to dress prettier and wanted to always wear what her friends would be wearing and what would be fashionable or was thought to be fashionable and 'in' at that age.'On the other hand this tom-boy hated being similar to anyone else and from an early age started being different.
It began with collecting, pretty much anything and everything she could get her hands on."In Spain when I was going through my growing up period, I collected leafs, tree branches, fruits, pets, you name it! I think this was the period where my family must have thought that I was crazy but hey i was just a little girl growing up."
First she dressed her barbie dolls with new clothes her parents had bought especially for her, but this was not good enough nor different enough so the experimentation period began. "I began dressing my barbies with scraps of material (which I guess that I got from my mum's wardrobe)and bows, then lolly wrappers and a lot of other things that I could somehow stick or fit on a barbie doll".
In late 1996, Bojana and her family moved to Australia in pursuit of a great living and career opportunity. To date she has attained a Diploma of Fashion Design and an Advanced Diploma of International Business which has given her the opportunity to learn about the operations of a business, both locally and internationally.
She has had the great opportunity to work alongside the 'Easternbloc' label owned by
Serge and Natasha MatovicWorking with a fashion design label taught me a lot about the design and production of fashion as well " as opening my eyes to a career alongside fashion" she says. And in conclusion, she has also had a number of her designs displayed at Bqueen boutique.
In addition, this designer comes from a family that revolves around design; her dad Milovan is a freelance designer, her sister Jelena is a Graduate Architect and her eldest sister Nina is a famous and successful Graphic Designer working in their hometown of Sarajevo."I studied fashion for three years where I acquired a Diploma in Fashion Design and went on to learn and study International Business. In knowing both sides of the fashion world i am ready to start gaining knowledge which will lead me to my career of a Fashion Designer and my life's passion for design and fashion" - Bojana Knezevic.
